Guided Tour of the Bottle Creek Mounds
Sat, Jan 13 2018 @ 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM UTC-6
On January 13th Blakeley Park takes its final trip of the season to the famous Bottle Creek Mounds, one of the Gulf Coast’s largest Native American mound centers. As the site is accessible only by boat and located in the heart of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, the best opportunity for a visit is in the winter when water levels are lower and vegetation less dense. The incredible Bottle Creek site features eighteen earthen mounds built centuries ago by Native Americans and was once of the largest communities in the region. The tallest of the mounds rises some 45 feet above the Delta marsh, making it among the largest of its type in the Southeast.
Guests will board the Delta Explorer at Lower Bryant’s Landing (see map on park website) at 9:30 AM for the cruise to the site, then go ashore for a walking tour of the mound complex guided by Historic Blakeley State Park staff. Guests can take an optional hike to the top of the tallest of the mounds before returning to the Landing.
$35 for adults/$17 for children ages 6-12
